As you all know, on Friday we will be having a test on what you have learned this week about pre-contact Aboriginal cultures of Canada. We have learned about the following six regions:
The learning goal for this unit is to be able to use a variety of tools to investigate and describe characteristics of pre-contact Aboriginal cultures across Canada and begin to understand the impacts of early contact between Aboriginal people and European explorers. See below for the success criteria we developed today as a class!
So far in this unit we have illustrated a map of the six Aboriginal culture regions of Canada. A copy of this map can also be found on page 113 of your "Many Gifts" textbook. Next, we looked up each of the six regions and used a jigsaw method to come together to exchange information on the natural environment, food, shelter, clothing, and social structures of each culture region. While we found many similarities amongst the six regions, there are also many differences that make each region and the people who inhabited them unique and special.
For your test on Friday, every question will be pulled from the three sections of each culture reagion in your textbook. Specifically, the paragraphs on natural environment, food, shelter, and clothing and social structure will be the only things you will be tested on. There are no surprises! We gave you all the questions and answers in class today.
Two examples of questions that could very well be on the test are:
1. Which region spanned from Northern British Columbia (west) to the Maritimes (east)? --- SUBARCTIC!
2. What are two main Aboriginal groups of people in the Northeast Woodlands region? --- ALGONQUIAN and IROQUOIAN!
Tomorrow will be a fun class that will aim to prepare you for the test in a more fun and interactive way!
